after wax care

Do's Of After Wax Care

In order to have smooth skin, you have to follow some steps after the waxing process. Following are the do's of after wax care that should be followed on your skin.

#1. Prefer Cool Over Hot

Once the waxing is done, it is important to clean the waxed area. So for this, you can take a shower bath with cold water. This can make your waxed skin to be very clean and fresh. also, it will make your skin to get calm down. After the waxing is done, your skin might be having some redness and burning sensations. So you can do a gentle massage on your skin with an ice cube pack. Sometimes we might also feel that the ice cube pack to be very cold when kept on our skin region. So by that time, you can take a towel or a small sponge. Make it completely wet by using ice water. Then wipe it gently on the waxed area for a few seconds. This will offer you great relief from such pain and irritations. You can also use a cold compress as this will be more effective in reducing the redness in your skin. Always prefer to use cold water for the next days after waxing on the waxed area.

#2. Scrub Your Skin

Exfoliation is the most important and the best process for preventing the growth of ingrown hairs in the waxed region. You can scrub your skin with any natural exfoliator or a readymade exfoliator to remove the ingrown hairs. A duration of about two to three days after the waxing is done is the perfect time to do the exfoliation process. This is because that is the time where your waxed skin will be retaining back to its normal state. And all the pores present in the waxed area of your skin will be closed by this time. You can use any of the natural homemade scrubs for exfoliating your skin[1]. This will make your skin to be very soft and smooth even after two to three days of waxing.

#3. Wear Your Clothes Wisely

Once the waxing is done, wearing a proper set of clothes and inner wears is one among the important thing. You have to make sure that the blood circulation in the waxed region of your skin is normal and proper. If you wear very tight clothes or inner wears, this will be a great obstacle for the flow of blood in your body. So it is very important to make sure that you wear loose clothes and comfortable inner wears that are not too tight. And also, make sure that you take a shower and change your inner wears after the waxing is done. This is because after waxing is done, the pores in your skin will be opened. If you wear the same inner wears, then there are many chances for the sweat and dirt to get penetrated into your skin pores. So you have to wear a clean pair of inner wears and clothes after the waxing process. In case if you have done bikini waxing, make sure that the fabric of your innerwear is cotton and not synthetic to make you feel more comfortable. If you wear synthetic like polyester type, then this will not let your skin pores to breathe properly. So there will be high chances for the irritations, inflammations and other infections on your skin to get increased.

#4. Apply Post-Wax Oil / Post-Depilatory Lotions

Post-wax oils or Post- depilatory lotions[2] are the most important component that should be included in everyone's waxing kit. If you get a waxing kit from the shop, then obviously each and every kit will contain a Post- depilatory lotion or oil in it. They have a bundle of advantages when it comes to skin that has been waxed. Apply this on your skin as soon as you have done waxing and shower can bring a lot of benefits to your skin. They have a wide range of benefits and a couple of the most important ones are listed below.

You can either prefer for a natural homemade post-wax oil or the one that is readily available in the shops and the online stores.

#5. Apply Cooling Gels

After the waxing[3] is done, you will surely have at least a slight irritation, redness and inflammation on the waxed part of your skin. And in terms of sensitive skin type, this might also be severe. Cooling gels can be a great remedy in solving all these issues on your skin. Your skin will have a calming and cooling effect if you apply the cooling gels. These gels can make your skin be fresh and bright without any side effects. You can use these gels after the waxing until a few days after the waxing process. It offers a refreshing effect on your skin and also protects it from any of the further effects or infections.

#6. Use Antiseptic Creams

When people who have sensitive skin[4] type do waxing, they might face certain side effects after the waxing process. They might get some skin rashes, wounds, bumps, redness and inflammations on their skin. In such cases, they can refer a professional or a doctor for treating those effects on their skin. The antiseptic creams[5] can help them with this. You can get proper guidance and use the antiseptic cream on your skin after the waxing is done. This can kill all the germs and harmful agents that are present in your skin and will also help in curing those skin infections and side effects.

#7. Moisturize The Skin

Moisturizing the skin is a very essential part and a process that should be done after the waxing is done on your skin. When waxing is done, all the pores[6] in your skin will be in an opened state. Moisturizing the skin can prevent your skin from getting dried up. Also when you apply moisturizer, the pores in your skin will be maintained with sufficient amount of water content. Also, this moisture content in your pores can prevent the occurrence of clogged pores in your skin. So, the pores will not get clogged due to any of the chemical products or skin care products that are applied after that. You can start to moisturize your skin either right from the day of the waxing or from the second day of waxing.

#8. Use Branded Post Wax Care Products

Skin is known to be the most important part of everyone's body. And that is the single organ which protects your entire body and also helps in defining your beauty to the outer world. So, it is very essential to be very selective and choosy with the products you use on your skin. Do not focus on the cost rather you have to focus on the quality of the product and the result it offers when used on your skin. You can also get advice from the professionals on the products that can be used for waxing your skin. Both the pre and the post waxing products are equally important and make sure that you don't fall for the price rather than the quality.

#9. Wash Your Skin Very Often

Once the waxing is done, it is very obvious that your skin will turn to be too sensitive and also the pores will be opened. So, it is very important for you to maintain your skin very clean post waxing. You have to wash your waxed skin very often to avoid the entry of any germs or infectious agents into the pores. Keep washing your waxed skin in cold water until the opened pores in your skin get closed completely. You have to wait for your skin to return back to its normal position. Till then washing is a must rule for a waxed skin.

Don'ts Of After Wax Care

Like a coin with two sides, you have some don'ts of after wax care that should be noted down. Following are the important don'ts to be followed after the waxing process.

#1. Say No To Heat

You might be used in taking up the hot baths[7], hot steams and saunas regularly. But then remember that all these things can literally damage your waxed skin. So you have to avoid all these for at least 24 to 48 hours after doing waxing on your skin. Start to avoid exposing your skin to any means of heat for those 48 hours. If you don't follow this, then your waxed portion of your skin will be extremely damaged and this will offer a very dull and dusky appearance to your skin. Do not use hot water while bathing, rather use cold water or maybe lukewarm water for bathing after the waxing is done. So strictly say no to heat for the next 48 hours after waxing.

#2. Avoid Shaving

Sometimes there are chances for some left over to be there on our skin even after waxing is done. In such cases, you should never prefer or try to shave[8] those leftover hairs from your skin. Your skin will be too sensitive once you have done waxing. So when you use razors or blades to shave the leftover hair in your skin, there are many chances for some wounds or cuts to happen on your skin. And it will start to bleed if you get such wounds or cuts on your skin. This can make your skin to be easily prone to infections. Also, the razors and blades will irritate your ski follicles when it goes in contact with them after waxing. So when you have leftover hair, it is better to leave it and wait until the next time of waxing. If not you can wax again that portion of your skin after a duration of about 5 to 6 days of waxing.

#3. Keep Your Hands Off

Usually, the pores in the waxed region of your skin will be opened after the waxing process is done. So if you touch the waxed are with your hands, there are many chances for the bacteria or any infectious agent in your hands to get entered into the pores in your skin. This might lead to the occurrence of any adverse infections or reactions on your skin. Also, you might get any bumps or any rashes if you touch your skin after waxing. So, make sure that you keep your hands away from the waxed region until your skin gets back to normal condition. Do not scratch your skin with the hands if you have any redness or irritations on your skin. This can make the effect to be even worse. So be careful with your hands after the waxing process.

#4. Avoid High Fragrance Products

We might use a wide range of fragranced products every day in our life. The type of fragrance products that we use starts from the small creams and body lotions to the body sprays, perfumes and the cosmetics that we use on our skin. All these highly fragranced products will contain the extra added color and flavoring agents in it. After the waxing is done, your skin will be extremely sensitive and these flavoring and coloring agents can make your skin to get irritations and inflammations very easily. So, this can really cause adverse effects on your skin by making the infection to go deeper on your skin.

#5. Do not Pick Ingrown Hairs

You might notice some ingrown hair[9] popping out of your skin layer. But then, do not try to pick the ingrown hair using a plucker or a razor. Leave the ingrown hair to be there on your skin. Wait for a duration of about at least 48 hours after doing the waxing. Then you can exfoliate your skin gently for removing all those ingrown hairs from your skin. Once you are done with the exfoliation you can apply a little amount of any antiseptic creams or lotions to avoid any infections. And if the exfoliation doesn't work you can use the ingrown hair solution that is available in the stores to remove them.

#6. Stay Away From Sun

During waxing the entire top and the protective layer of your skin will be stripped off with the wax. So, sunlight can cause damage to your skin if your waxed skin gets exposed much. This will make your skin get suntanned more than the usual days. Also, you might also get sunburns on your skin which can be highly painful and cause a burning sensation on your skin. The natural color of your skin will get affected and might become dark too due to the sunlight. So, avoid exposing your skin to the sun for about 48 hours after waxing. Also, use a mild sunscreen lotion that has very low SPF[10] content in it if you wanted to go out.

#7. Say No To Strong And Harsh Products

We might use a lot of skin care products in our day to day lives. And many of the products might contain strong and harsh component contained in them. Some of the skin care products could also be strong by nature. But then it is very important to make sure that you avoid the usage of such products on your waxed skin. This can be highly dangerous and might cause some adverse effects on your skin.  And those harsh products could make your skin lose the waxing effect completely from your skin. Your skin can become rough and dull after using such products.

#8. Avoid Dry And Oily Skin Products

The oily products include the body lotions, creams and vaseline that contains oil content in it. When these oily products are being applied on your waxed skin, then the oils present in these products will enter the open pores present in your skin. And when it comes to the dry skin care products, it includes the body sprays and the deodorants that we use every day. These products can cause irritations on your skin and might get deposited and filled up in the opened skin pores of our skin. This might cause some allergic reactions on your skin. So, avoid using oily and dry skin care products on your waxed regions.

#9. Say No To Paraben And Petroleum Products

Usually, we prefer paraben-free and petroleum-free products to be used on our skin. This does not mean that parabens are harmful to our skin. But then parabens have the ability to disturb the normal hormonal function of our body. And at the same time parabens are only safe when used in small amounts for a normal skin type. So when it comes to waxed skin, then it is better to omit the usage of skin care products that contain traces of paraben and petroleum in it.

#10. Do Not Use Products With High SPF

The usage of sunscreen lotions or other skin care products with high SPF after waxing can literally spoil your skin. Sunscreen lotion will obviously contain at least a small amount of chemical compounds in them. So, these chemical compounds can make your skin to be very irritative when it is applied on your waxed skin. They might also lead to any type of allergic reactions or skin infections. So avoid using products with high SPF for about 12 to 24 hours after the waxing process.

#11. No Swimming

As soon as you do waxing, even the normal skin will turn to be sensitive for about a duration of 48 hours. So your skin will be prone to any kind of infections[11] or effects if you expose it. Swimming pools will contain chlorine water in it. Since chlorine is a chemical compound, it can cause irritations and burning sensations in your skin when you swim after waxing. And also, since swimming pools are a common one the water might contain germs and bacterias that may cause infections on waxed skin. And when it comes to the beach, the beach water will contain a lot of salt content in it. When salt goes in contact with the waxed skin, it can cause serious itchiness and redness. It will also make your skin get bumps on it which can be painful. So, it is better if you don't go swimming for at least 48 hours after waxing.

#12. Say No To All Physical Activity

Physical activity includes going for jogging, doing regular exercises, running and doing any heavy household works. This is because when you do such heavy works, you will obviously start sweating a lot. And remember that sweat is one among the enemies of the waxed skin region to induce any kinds of skin infections by entering the skin pores. So say no to all kinds of physical activities for about 48 hours after the waxing. It is better if you rest for the 48 hours post waxing without doing any works or going anywhere.

#13. Avoid Chemical Peeling Appointments

In waxing, already the top protective layer of your skin will be removed completely and thus it becomes sensitive. Now in chemical peeling[12] obviously they will remove the layer of your skin using the chemical compounds. So when you subject your waxed skin to chemical peeling, then it will make the next deep skin layer to get removed. This can lead to various kinds of harmful effects ranging from irritations, redness to serious problems like skin damage, over-sensitivity and damage to hair follicles and pores in your skin. So do not do chemical peeling appointments right after the waxing process. It is better if you wait for about at least 1 to 2 days. By this time, your skin will be back to its normal state and then you can take up the chemical peeling treatment on your skin.

#14. Avoid Sexual Activity

Freshly waxed skin is something equal to a fresh wound which is open. So you have to treat it with the utmost care and proper hygiene. When you do bikini waxing, it is very important for you to avoid any sexual activity up to a duration of about 48 hours. Because due to waxing the pores in your bikini region will be clean and open. And when you involve in any kind of sexual activity, then there are many chances for the bacterias to get entered into your bikini region pores. So, prevent this it is better if you avoid sexual activity and allow your skin to rest for some time for making it get back to its normal state.
